About

I received the B.Sc. degree from Sharif University of Technology, in 2009, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering (with specialization in signal processing) at the Department of Information Technology, Uppsala University, in Oct. 2014. Before joining UIC, I held research positions at California Institute of Technology (Caltech), and SnT, University of Luxembourg. My research interests lie in the interplay of signal processing, learning and optimization theory, and specifically different ways optimization theory can facilitate a better processing and design of signals for collecting information, communication, as well as to form a more profound understanding of data—whether it is in everyday applications or in large-scale, complex scenarios.

I am a Senior Member of IEEE, and serve as a member of the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, and IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems (Radar Systems Area), as well as the Chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society Chapter in Chicago. I have been a recipient of the 2017 IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Young Author Best Paper Award, and the 2018 European Signal Processing Association (EURASIP) Best PhD Award.
